There are many different forms of therapy about today, each with different purposes and benefits for the body, mind and spirit. Many are straight forward, and many are complicated but none perhaps is more mysterious than past life regression, something brought on by hypnosis and as such a form of hypnotherapy. Now, when I say hypnosis, I’m not talking about a strange sinister magician dangling a watch in front of you and making you dance like a chicken but rather a hypnotherapist lulling you into a trance like state in order to connect with your subconscious. Once you have reached this state your problems can be addressed on a deeper level and the theory is that this can correct certain mental issue for good. Past life regression is also performed in this state.
But just what is past life regression? Well it revolves around the belief of reincarnation, the idea that we have lived many lives before our own and the traumas of these lives can often stay with us, affecting the lives that follow them. Whilst under the throws of hypnosis the hypnotist (again not a magician) will guide the patient through memories of lives gone by. Some can even allow you to travel forward into future lives too. Often you will visit different periods in each life and there have been all sorts of recording from Egyptian slaves to Native American Chiefs.
Several studies have been done in hopes of discovering whether or not there is in fact any truth in these glimpses into history however so far it would seem that there is no real truth in them. Studies have revealed that those that believe in reincarnation are far more likely to be able to see into the past, with events usually being picked up subconsciously in our day to day learning or often even being influenced (whether intended or not) by whoever is leading the session at the time. Studies have shown that details often match up with dramatized versions of historic events, with exact dates that were featured in those versions too. Though it is generally believed that the historical element to the process is not necessarily true it is still thought by many to be a form of therapy that can work wonders, whether it’s true or not.
Pros and Cons
As I said before, the idea behind past life regression is that an issue in one of our past lives still haunts us today. This can involve anything from a bad back to a fear of spiders. In these cases, a patient may go back and find that they fell off their horse in battle injuring their back, or were out hunting in the Outback where they were bitten by a deadly arachnid. Once these events have been experienced these things can almost miraculously disappear with wonderful effects. That being said one should always be wary when undergoing the procedure, there have also been cases of people experiencing traumatic events, events which have gone on to traumatise them in their present life. A patient in Israel imagined he was trapped in a coffin, ever since the memory has haunted him causing the practise to undergo strict new rules.
